10 healthy Parenting Tips

As a Parent, We all want our kids to be happy. We try to give them everything we didn’t have as a child. We want them to be creative and outgoing. We want them to have a good group of friends and be knowledgeable. Social class, wealth, culture and income have a very strong impact on what methods of child rearing parents use.[8] Cultural values play a major role in how a parent raises their child. However, parenting is always evolving; as times, cultural practices, social norms, and traditions change.Parents who observe their children in play or join with them in child-driven play have the opportunity to glimpse into their children’s world, learn to communicate more effectively with their children and are given another setting to offer gentle, nurturing guidance.

  • Create Your Own Quality Time

    • 1.  Play with your children.
      Let them choose the activity, and don't worry about rules. Just go with the flow and have fun. That's the name of the game.
    • 2.   Read books together every day
      Get started when he's a newborn; babies love listening to the sound of their parents' voices. Cuddling up with your child and a book is a great bonding experience that will set him up for a lifetime of reading.
    • 3.  Schedule daily special time
      Let your child choose an activity where you hang out together for 10 or 15 minutes with no interruptions. There's no better way for you to show your love.

      The more involved they are in meal preparation, the more likely they are to eat. And by the time they're teenagers, they'll be able to cook for you.
    • 3.  Go for greeny vegies
      Get your kids to load up on the healthiest foods by putting veggies on the dinner table before anything else. Let them use their fingers for green beans, cucumbers, and broccoli while they wait for the main course.
    • 4.  Don't reward with food.
      Using sweets as an incentive ("You'll get ice cream if you do all your chores" or "No dessert if you don't finish your peas") sends the wrong message and creates bad eating habits.
  • Be a Good Role Model for you child

    • 1.   Be the role model your children deserve.
      Kids learn by watching their parents. Modeling appropriate, respectful, good behavior works much better than telling them what to do.
    • 2.   Live a little greener.
      Show your kids how easy it is to care for the environment. Waste less, recycle, reuse, and conserve each day. Spend an afternoon picking up trash around the neighborhood.
    • 3.  Kiss and hug your spouse in front of the kids.
      Your marriage is the only example your child has of what an intimate relationship looks, feels, and sounds like. So it's your job to set a great standard.
    • 4.  Respect parenting differences.
      Support your spouse's basic approach to raising kids unless it's way out of line. Criticizing or arguing with your partner will do more harm to your marriage and your child's sense of security than if you accept standards that are different from your own.
  • Know the Best Ways to Praise

    • 1.  Give appropriate praise.
      Instead of simply saying, "You're great," try to be specific about what your child did to deserve the positive feedback. You might say, "Waiting until I was off the phone to ask for cookies was hard, and I really liked your patience."
    • 2.   Cheer the good stuff.
      When you notice your child doing something helpful or nice, let him know how you feel. It's a great way to reinforce good behavior so he's more likely to keep doing it.
    • 3.  Gossip about your kids.
      Fact: What we overhear is far more potent than what we are told directly. Make praise more effective by letting your child "catch" you whispering a compliment about him to Grandma, Dad, or even his teddy.
    • 4.  Respect parenting differences.
      Support your spouse's basic approach to raising kids unless it's way out of line. Criticizing or arguing with your partner will do more harm to your marriage and your child's sense of security than if you accept standards that are different from your own.
  • Health & Safety

    • 1.  Watch your windows.
      Install guards on all windows above the first floor. (Make sure they have an emergency release in case of fire.) Never put a crib -- or any other furniture that a child could climb on alongside a window.
    • 2.   Never relent when it comes to using a car seat.
      No matter what, keep kids in a rear-facing infant seat until they're at least 1 and weigh 20 pounds. After that, use a forward-facing seat until kids are about 40 pounds. Use boosters until they are 4'9" tall. Don't let anyone under 13 ride in the front seat.
    • 3.  Make hand-washing a habit.
      It's the best way to avoid germs. Encourage children to wash with soap and water for 30 seconds.
    • 4.  Keep a health Record.
      In a small notebook, write down info about your child's illnesses, immunizations, allergies, chronic conditions, and medications. Put it in your purse or have it handy, and be sure to grab it if you have to take your child to the ER.
    • 5.   Don't overlook a cough
      Kids who frequently cough especially at night may have asthma, even if they never wheeze. Get it diagnosed early.

    • 1.  Get your kids vaccinated.
      Outbreaks of measles and other diseases still occur in our country and throughout the world.
    • 2.   Protect that smile.
      Encouraging your kid to brush twice a day with a dab of fluoride toothpaste will guard against cavities.
    • 3.  Listen to the doc
      If your pediatrician thinks your kid's fever is caused by a virus, don't push for antibiotics. The best medicine may be rest, lots of fluids, and a little TLC. Overprescribing antibiotics can cause medical problems for your child and increase the chances of creating superbugs that resist treatment.
    • 4.   Know when to toilet train.
      Look for these two signs that your child is ready to use the potty: He senses the urge to pee and poop (this is different from knowing that he's already gone), and he asks for a diaper change
